SIPPS plans anti-litter campaign for Sint Maarten’s Day

The Sint Maarten Institute for Public Policy Studies plans to launch its “There Is a Place for Trash” campaign on Wednesday 11 November.

Sailboats are anchored in blue water in front of a beachfront lined with buildings, backed by hillsides dotted with houses.

The Sint Maarten Institute for Public Policy Studies, SIPPS, plans to launch its “There Is a Place for Trash” anti-littering campaign on Wednesday 11 November, Sint Maarten’s Day. SIPPS said the campaign is intended to encourage residents and tourists to dispose of waste properly.

SIPPS said an increasing amount of litter and improperly disposed waste is affecting beaches, roadsides, parks and public spaces. The organisation said the waste harms the environment and wildlife and affects the island’s image.

SIPPS said campaign stickers can be placed on gates, mailboxes, trash cans and vehicles. It said people can get information or participate by calling or sending a WhatsApp message to 526-5252 or 520-5752.
