St. Maarten Library forum draws 20 girls for inaugural Becoming HER event

The St. Maarten Library held its inaugural Becoming HER Girls Empowerment and Inspirational Forum with 20 young women, above the planned maximum of 15, according to the library. Monalysa sponsored the venue for the event.

The library said the forum included discussions on personal growth, confidence, life experiences, decision-making and challenges faced by young women. Cheryl Dangleben York, Sjamira Roseburg, Nakeesha Carty and Tamara Leonard were panelists, while Makayla Cooks moderated the discussion.

Lead Event Coordinator D’shnay Mathew York said participants and panelists wanted another event. She said her goal is for Becoming HER to become an annual event and that she and the library have begun discussing ways to expand it to other Caribbean islands.
