The Office of Disaster Management said there is no tsunami threat to Sint Maarten following a preliminary-magnitude 6.8 earthquake along the Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge on Tuesday 13 October. According to ODM, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami information statement and no warning, watch or advisory was issued for Sint Maarten.

ODM said the PTWC recorded the earthquake at about 8:23am AST, or 12:23 UTC, at a depth of about 10 kilometres. The centre placed it near the Central Mid-Atlantic Ridge at about 0.2 degrees south latitude and 19.2 degrees west longitude, ODM said.

ODM said no protective action was required in connection with the earthquake. It encouraged households, businesses, schools and other organisations to review emergency plans and said people in coastal areas should move inland or to higher ground if natural tsunami warning signs occur.
