Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina has offered condolences to the family of Wayne Drummond, who died from severe burn injuries sustained while working at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort on Sunday 20 September. Mercelina said Drummond had been medically evacuated to Colombia for specialised treatment.

Mercelina said he supported Minister Claret Connor and a formal Labour Inspectorate investigation under the Safety Ordinance, or Veiligheidslandsverordening. He said no conclusions should be drawn before the investigation is completed.

The Prime Minister said families of workers who die in workplace accidents may qualify for support through SZV's Accident Insurance, including a funeral grant and survivors' benefits, regardless of any finding of fault. He said government would help Drummond's family receive information and assistance.
