Prison Week 2026 opens under ‘It’s Time to Shine’
The Prisonworkers Activity Club opened Prison Week 2026, bringing staff from Sint Maarten, Suriname, Curaçao and Bonaire together.

On Wednesday 7 October, the Prisonworkers Activity Club opened Prison Week 2026 under the theme “It’s Time to Shine.” According to the club, prison personnel from Sint Maarten, Suriname, Curaçao and Bonaire attended the opening.
Minister of Justice Nathalie Tackling said prison personnel help maintain safety and security and play a role in rehabilitation through their daily interactions, guidance and accountability. She also thanked the prison services of Suriname, Curaçao and Bonaire for their partnership with Sint Maarten.
Prison Director Steven Carty welcomed the visiting delegations and staff. Carty said Point Blanche Prison staff know resilience and that a new prison is on the horizon.
Andricia Arrendell-Richardson, president of the Prisonworkers Activity Club, welcomed participants as part of one prisonworkers family. She said the week recognises the men and women who work in correctional facilities each day.
