Romario Benjamin and Lisette Richardson, two young residents of Saint-Martin, have joined a BPJEPS Basketball training programme at the Tony Parker Adéquat Academy in Lyon, according to the associations Let's Do It and Le Chemin de la Jeunesse.
The associations said they secured the training places with support from the academy. Let's Do It is chaired by Bryan Kenroy, with Samuel Gumbs as vice-president for development. Le Chemin de la Jeunesse is chaired by Sylvio Richardson-Irish and directed by Milinda Jouenne.
The BPJEPS Basketball qualification prepares participants to supervise basketball activities, lead sessions for different groups and manage sports projects, according to the academy information cited by the associations. Benjamin and Richardson also received training in planning and leading sessions during their travel.
After graduating, the trainees can apply to register as sports instructors. The associations said applicants whose diploma and good character are verified can receive a professional sports instructor card, allowing them to coach basketball for pay within their qualifications.
